The answer: Right here at the Ambitious Writer Society!

Let’s face it: Cold pitching seems really hard if you don’t know how to do it properly. You’re also battling the chilling nerves and overwhelming desire to talk yourself out of doing it.

Sure, you might know the basics. But, even though there is a ton of cold pitching training out there, if you’re not landing work from your pitches, those resources obviously didn’t help you.

When I first started looking for free cold pitching writing courses, I noticed that most of them offered generalized information that was not tailored to the skillset and needs of professional writers.

In this post, I want to talk about the need for more cold pitching training for writers and how you can start to land work more often by improving your pitches and making them completely error-free.

And yes, AWS provides tons of cold pitching content for writers, so check out our entire list of blog posts about landing work and finding clients!

Even the Best Cold Pitching Courses Weren’t Made for Writers

Over the years, I’ve learned so much about cold pitching from here, there, everywhere! When I was trying to figure out where to learn cold pitch writing for free, I came across several free courses, blogs and lead magnets (which I thought was great).

So, I’d watch a video about how to cold pitch or read a blog, but a lot of the information was so generalized. And when I pulled what I could from the resource, I’d go back to write my pitch, feeling stuck!

As you can imagine, I spent a lot of time sifting through countless tools and resources, but most of the information was inapplicable to what I needed to know as a writer - especially as a writer trying to promote my complex services.

Yes, I definitely gained a ton of amazing background knowledge, but when it came to the ins and outs of what writers needed to know about cold pitching, these resources just didn’t deliver.

Then Came the Ambitious Writer Society

Spoiler alert: There were no useful, actionable cold pitching resources for writers, so AWS created them.

These AWS resources are exactly what I needed before and during the cold pitching process. Instead of me fumbling around and making mistakes, I could have avoided a lot of missed opportunities if I knew what to look out for.

As you might have guessed from the long list above, there are many places where your pitch can go wrong - all of which will likely send your email to the trash (or worse).

And by worse, I mean receiving an angry email from a prospect. It can totally ruin your day!

You’ll Learn How to Avoid Stupid Mistakes

Mistakes happen, but as a writer, you are particularly scrutinized if you make a mistake, even when writing an email.

And since I’m a writer myself, I totally understand that writing words all day every day can get a little tiresome, and you’re prone to error.

Unfortunately, you’ll most likely have to send out quite a few pitches before you land work, and even more if you want to land full time work. So the reality is that you’ll have to do a lot of cold pitch writing - and it needs to be spotless.

To your prospect, they will only consider hiring a professional writer if the pitch is spotless. Completely on-target with their needs. Completely professional. Completely error-free.

Now, that’s a lot of pressure when you’re sending 40 pitches per week in hopes to land work. You get tired, stupid mistakes happen and - unfortunately - those stupid mistakes can blow your chance with that prospect.

The entirety of our blogs act almost like a free cold pitching writing course. You’re educated on the most common mistakes and how to avoid them at all costs - even when you’re battling fatigue, nerves, boredom and redundancy.
